::::::::::::::
:::::::::::::: let me essplain this days mishmash of issues here in
:::::::::::::: LaLand. last night, at
:::::::::::::: 10:30 PM, a northern Los Angeles community, Sylmar, Ca.
:::::::::::::: started burning. there has been 24 hour, wall to wall
:::::::::::::: news coverage with all local channels being solid
:::::::::::::: commercial free reporterette live video, but exhausting.
:::::::::::::: when the sun came up today, more fires South of Los
:::::::::::::: Angeles in Chino, Ca. started and burned West through
:::::::::::::: Yorba Linda, Ca., and fires started in Palace Verdes,
:::::::::::::: Ca. We will see key graphics here on all local stations
:::::::::::::: for months saying, Firestorm 2008.
::::::::::::::
:::::::::::::: at 3:00 PM Pacific, a news conference with all fire and
:::::::::::::: police gave an update. LAPD chief bratton, mentioned
:::::::::::::: that he has stretched man power because of a "gay
:::::::::::::: protest of eight to ten thousand going all around
:::::::::::::: downtown L.A." no reports of the fags anywhere on any
:::::::::::::: channel. isn't that special timing them, though.
::::::::::::::
:::::::::::::: [Note: no fag, lesbian, chicken, cow, or spiced meat were
:::::::::::::: harmed in the editing of this post. they are all
:::::::::::::: friends of mine.]
:::::::::::::
::::::::::::: Yeah, we be seeing those reports of the fires on the news
::::::::::::: here. Guess we can pray for the rainy season to come early
::::::::::::: 'cause that might be all that would help. I'd send you
::::::::::::: some of our rain if I could.
:::::::::::::
::::::::::::: About the Prop. 8 stuff...yeah, heard that, too. Stupid
::::::::::::: protesters. We have quite a bit of buzz here in the church
::::::::::::: circles concerning it.
::::::::::::
:::::::::::: well tonight, I am finally smelling the smoke. I am in the
:::::::::::: los angeles basin with the hollywood hills in-between the
:::::::::::: fires. winds are swirling around (not windy here at all),
:::::::::::: and now the smoke that had been going to the
:::::::::::: ocean for 24 hours is turned around and stinking up things
:::::::::::: on the westside.
::::::::::::
:::::::::::: well, los angeles county court clerk immediately stopped
:::::::::::: issuing the jack-in-the-box licenses after the election.
:::::::::::: this will go up the lawyer food chain and the court chain,
:::::::::::: for sure. insurgence can not help but be defeated -
:::::::::::: eventually. I heard one black lady call into a morning
:::::::::::: radio show I listen to, and she was pist at the fags.
:::::::::::: blacks and hispanic exit polling showed that they
:::::::::::: supported yes on 8, by 85 to 90 percent. this lady on the
:::::::::::: radio show, was telling the fags to get over it, and don't
:::::::::::: dare blend in civil rights into it. she said not only
:::::::::::: does gay plumbing not match, but
:::::::::::: black civil rights in in no way your fantasy civil rights.
:::::::::::: I think she is the voice of the ice berg tip.
:::::::::::
::::::::::: And she's right about it not being about civil rights.
::::::::::: Seems to me that in California like a lot of states now,
::::::::::: gays do get equal treatment for everything that really
::::::::::: should matter to them. I know that California has domestic
::::::::::: partnership laws concerning stuff like health insurance,
::::::::::: that same-sex couples can be counted as a dependent on
::::::::::: their partner's health insurance, etc. I think it's stupid
::::::::::: that they're bitching at the LDS Church like their stance
::::::::::: on what defines marriage is something new. It's not. It
::::::::::: hasn't changed and I have a framed copy of what's called
::::::::::: "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" on my mantel
::::::::::: which specifically states the LDS Church's position on what
::::::::::: constitutes a marriage. You can read it by going to
::::::::::: www.lds.org and following the link on the left side of the
::::::::::: page for Strong Families. Same as it ever was. The
::::::::::: proclamation was published in 1995. I'm hearing, though,
::::::::::: from my friends that they know of people who are going to
::::::::::: leave the church because of the support from it for Prop.
::::::::::: 8. Well, that's just ridiculous. NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
::::::::::: The Church didn't just come out before the election and
::::::::::: say, oh, by the way, we don't approve of gay marriage.
:::::::::::
::::::::::: And this business of the gays saying churches shouldn't be
::::::::::: involved in this issue. Hmm...some of us consider it a
::::::::::: MORAL issue and churches are all about MORAL issues. Also,
::::::::::: now they're saying that the church should have its tax-
::::::::::: exempt status taken away because it's a violation to be
::::::::::: involved in politics. Ah, but that only applies when it
::::::::::: comes to endorsing political candidates or parties and does
::::::::::: not apply to initiatives or propositions. Plus, actual
::::::::::: church money never went to defeating Prop. 8. Lots of
::::::::::: wealthy members may have made large donations
::::::::::: themselves...but that's not any different than any other
::::::::::: person of any faith or no faith donating money to whatever
::::::::::: cause they believe in.
::::::::::
:::::::::: somebody is threatening to leave a church over this? please.
:::::::::: what a bunch
:::::::::: of bull, and you can tell them that from me. and, why
:::::::::: haven't the butt boys
:::::::::: been demonstrating in front of Black Churches, where the
:::::::::: parishioners have
:::::::::: been more responsible for their votes on prop 8 passage?
:::::::::: nothing like a
:::::::::: bunch of white fags in front of a black church trying to make
:::::::::: their case -
:::::::::: not.
::::::::::
::::::::: There are always people like that in the church who start
::::::::: whining that they're leaving the church over some issue that
::::::::: they don't agree on. However, these people, while they may
::::::::: technically have membership in the church, meaning they
::::::::: haven't formally asked for their records to be removed, 99%
::::::::: of the time they aren't active members. They don't go to
::::::::: church anymore and they pretty much don't follow the "rules"
::::::::: anyway.
:::::::::
:::::::: Hey Marilyn
:::::::: Do you know anything about the Mormon Church baptizing Jews so
:::::::: they have a chance to go to Heaven and deny Jesus again ? I
:::::::: thought they already were God's Chosen peoples...and wouldn't a
:::::::: person be baptized before death if that's what they wanted? I
:::::::: read somthing in the paper about this but didn't quite get how
:::::::: you can be half drowned when you're already 100% dead...
::::::::
::::::: I don't know anything about any one specific ethnic group or
::::::: whatever being baptized, and I'm assuming you're talking about
::::::: vicarious baptism for the dead? I think that I may do a poor
::::::: job explaining things so I'd rather direct you toward
::::::: www.mormon.org which answers basic doctrinal questions. I will
::::::: say that there is scriptural basis in the New Testament for
::::::: baptizing the dead. It's not necessarily a matter of being
::::::: baptized before death if you really wanted it. The majority of
::::::: baptisms for the dead are done on ancestors that died a long
::::::: time ago, who never had a chance to hear the Gospel in its
::::::: restored form while they were on earth. You see, we believe
::::::: that baptism is an ordinance that must be performed in order to
::::::: one day return to Heavenly Father. But it has to be done by
::::::: someone in authority, who holds priesthood keys to do it. So
::::::: while people can get baptized in any old church by any
::::::: minister, we don't believe those baptisms are valid because
::::::: there is no priesthood line of authority. Being an ordained
::::::: minister doesn't give you those keys. Anyway, as proper baptism
::::::: is required to enter into the kingdom of heaven, all should be
::::::: given the opportunity to have it, whether in this life or the
::::::: next.
:::::::
::::::: The dead person isn't the one who gets baptized. It's done by
::::::: proxy, which means that a living person stands in for the
::::::: deceased when going into the waters of baptism. And yes, the
::::::: souls or spirits on the other side do have the opportunity to
::::::: accept or reject that baptism. It's not our part to worry
::::::: about whether they do or do not accept it. It's called free
::::::: agency. Our part is merely to make sure the ordinance gets
::::::: performed.
:::::::
:::::::
:::::: That's interesting... Would the Pope of the Catholic Church have
:::::: valid authority ?
:::::
:::::
::::: Nope. Can't show the proper line of authority. Priesthood keys
::::: were taken off the earth for a long time and then restored when
::::: the Gospel was restored through Joseph Smith.
:::
::: We (Roman Catholic) also have a glitch in valid priesthood...namely
::: the Protestants. When Martin Luther broke with the Church he was
::: excomunicated so he could not validly ordinate any new priests or
::: bishops. So we believe the priesthood was broken then and that is
::: why we cannot be in or share communion with them.
::
::
:: See, and we think it goes back farther than that and wasn't restored
:: until the time when Joseph Smith received it.
::
:: This is what can be found at newsroom.lds.org:
::
:: Christian churches regard the question of authority - the divine
:: right to preach, act in the name of God and direct the Lord's church
:: - in different ways. Some, like the Roman Catholic, Orthodox and
:: Coptic churches, emphasize a continuous line of authority from the
:: early apostles. Some who broke away from those churches say they
:: find authority in the inerrancy of the Bible. Others rely heavily on
:: a sense of "calling" to the ministry. Latter-day Saints have a
:: distinctive view of priesthood authority that helps define them.
:: The New Testament describes the church established by Jesus Christ
:: as one with structure and form. The apostles were at its head, and
:: as recipients both of ordained authority and revelation, they were
:: charged with guiding the church and keeping its doctrines pure as it
:: expanded throughout the known world.
:: The fact that the original church of Jesus Christ would eventually
:: fall into a state of apostasy was foretold by ancient prophets and
:: by the apostles in Christ's day.
:: Although Latter-day Saints believe that divine authority was lost in
:: the ancient church after the death of the apostles and required a
:: restoration by divine intervention, they do not dismiss or diminish
:: the validity of other people's religious experiences:
:: Much of the true doctrine taught by Jesus Christ is found in
:: churches today. Members of other churches who accept Jesus Christ
:: and try to live by the principles he taught are entitled to divine
:: guidance and inspiration in their lives.
:: Faithful Christians who are not Latter-day Saints still go to
:: heaven, and those who live according to all the truth and light they
:: have will open themselves to further light in the hereafter.
:: Anyone who accepts Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the Redeemer
:: of the world is a Christian, regardless of differences in theology.
:: The Bible is a revelation from God, of immense value for the
:: powerful impact it has to change the lives of men and women. It is
:: not diminished by the existence of additional scripture.
:: For Latter-day Saints, the restoration of priesthood authority in
:: the first half of the 19th century was a literal act through angelic
:: visitations from those who held the authority anciently. Divine
:: authority was restored to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
:: Saints through a visitation of the resurrected John the Baptist in
:: 1829 near Harmony (now Oakland), Pennsylvania, and sometime
:: afterwards through the appearance of the resurrected ancient
:: apostles Peter, James and John. Today, all members of The Church of
:: Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who hold the priesthood trace
:: their authority directly to these visitations and bestowal of the
:: priesthood of God on Joseph Smith and early leaders of the Church. A
:: person receiving the priesthood today customarily sits while a
:: person who already holds the priesthood stands and places his hands
:: on the recipient's head and formally confers that authority. The
:: "Apostolic Keys" of priesthood authority today - by which is meant
:: the right to direct the Church - are believed to be vested in the
:: modern apostles in the same way that the ancient apostles had the
:: authority to direct the early church.
Okay I see their line of reasoning. There are some similarities with what we are taught (not about the validity of the priesthood but about who or who cannot be saved). Basically, it comes down to the point that on dying and coming face to face with God, He will make the final judgement. We do not know who or if anyone has gone to hell and that the only unforgivable sin is the sin against the s
Spirit. There's some theological arguements about exactly what that constitutes, but many believe it could mean that when finally coming face to face with God and His love, we still reject Him.
